Survey & Specification

We assess building height, stair cores, access for appliances, and existing mains — then specify inlet positions, pipe sizes, and valve layouts to suit the fire strategy.

Supply & Installation

Pipework, breechings, cabinets, landing valves, air valves, and signage installed by experienced engineers with tidy finishes in public and service areas.

Commissioning Tests

Hydrostatic pressure testing, flow tests where required, valve operation checks, and handover documentation so the main is proven before occupation.

Facilities Handover

Clear location schedules, access notes for inlet cabinets, and guidance for building teams on keeping approaches clear for fire appliances.

Planned Maintenance

Scheduled inspections, lubrication of valves, cap and seal checks, and defect remediation so the riser remains serviceable year after year.

Wider Fire Package

Coordinate dry risers with fire alarms, emergency lighting, AOVs, and extinguishers so life-safety systems work as one strategy.

System Components

Every Part of a Working Dry Rising Main

A dry riser is only as reliable as its inlets, valves, pipework, and access. We specify and maintain the full assembly — not just a red cabinet on the wall.

Inlet Breeching Cabinets

Ground-level dual inlets where the fire service connects pumps — clearly signed, accessible, and protected by a lockable red cabinet.

Vertical Rising Mains

Fixed pipework rising through the building to serve landing outlets on intermediate and upper floors.

Landing Valves

Floor outlets for firefighters to connect hoses without running lines from ground level up multiple storeys.

Air Release Valves

High-point vents that help the main fill correctly and support reliable testing and operation.

Drain Points

Low-level drainage for testing and maintenance so water can be safely removed after flow or pressure tests.

Signage & Identification

Clear markings so appliances find the inlet quickly and crews locate landing valves without delay.

Tested. Documented. Ready.

Inspection & Testing That Stands Up to Scrutiny

Dry risers must work the day they are needed — not just look correct on a drawing. Our testing regime checks integrity, operation, and access so you can demonstrate readiness.

  • Visual checks of cabinets, valves, caps and signage
  • Hydrostatic pressure testing of the main
  • Flow testing where specified by the strategy
  • Written reports, certificates and remedial plans

Why Dry Risers Matter

Faster Firefighting on Multi-Storey Sites

Without a working dry riser, firefighters may need to lay hose from the street to upper floors — losing critical time. A proven main puts water where crews need it.

Many multi-storey residential and commercial buildings require dry rising mains as part of the fire strategy and building regulations approach. Responsibility for keeping them usable typically sits with the building owner or responsible person.

We help landlords, managing agents, and facilities managers install, test, and maintain dry risers with clear documentation for insurers, freeholders, and enforcement bodies.

Faster Response

Landing valves cut the time needed to get water on upper floors.

Strategy Support

Deliver the firefighting main your design and risk assessment require.

Audit Ready

Test certificates and defect logs that stand up to inspection.

Asset Protection

Catch leaks and seized valves before they fail in an emergency.

Where We Work

Dry Risers for Multi-Storey Environments

From residential blocks to commercial towers, we design and maintain dry rising mains around real access, stair cores, and fire service approach routes.

Residential Blocks

Stair-core risers for apartments, HMOs, and mixed-use residential buildings.

Offices & Commercial

Multi-floor workplaces with clear inlet access and floor-by-floor outlets.

Hotels & Hospitality

Guest buildings where firefighting reach and reliable testing matter daily.

Education & Campus

Teaching blocks and multi-building sites with managed service schedules.

Healthcare & Care

Sensitive sites needing dependable mains and carefully planned works.

Industrial & Logistics

Taller industrial structures and high-bay sites where strategy requires a main.

Ongoing Care

Keep Every Inlet and Valve Ready

Cabinets get blocked, valves seize, and caps go missing. Planned inspections catch problems early and leave you with records that prove the main has been maintained.

  • Scheduled visual inspections
  • Valve operation & seal checks
  • Pressure testing programmes
  • Priority remedial works support

Common Questions

Dry Riser FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we hear most often from landlords, managing agents, and facilities managers.

What is a dry riser?

A dry rising main is a vertical pipe system that is normally empty of water. Firefighters connect their pumps to a ground-level inlet and charge the main so they can take water from landing valves on upper floors without running hose from the street.

What is the difference between a dry riser and a wet riser?

A dry riser is empty until the fire service charges it. A wet riser is permanently charged with water, typically used in taller buildings where immediate water at height is required. We advise which approach your fire strategy and building height require.

How often should dry risers be tested?

They should be inspected and tested on a planned programme aligned with BS 9990 and your fire risk assessment — commonly including regular visual checks and periodic pressure/flow testing. We set a schedule that matches your building and risk profile.

Who is responsible for maintaining the dry riser?

Usually the building owner, freeholder, or responsible person under fire safety law. Managing agents often coordinate testing and repairs. We provide the technical works and documentation you need to demonstrate due diligence.

Can you repair a failed pressure test?

Yes. We diagnose leaks, replace gaskets and valves, repair or replace damaged sections, and re-test so you can return the main to a serviceable condition with updated certificates.

Do you cover Sussex and the wider UK?

Yes. We install, test, and maintain dry risers across Sussex and further afield across the UK. Contact us with your postcode for availability and lead times.
